How embroidery can be like cooking 🍳 🪡

Hello, and happy beginning of February!
It's been sunny and warm in Seattle; this time last year, it was snowing (which promptly melted in mere days). The sunshine always makes me feel more motivated and productive, and I've been working away on some new wild animal embroidery kits.
I’ve set a lofty-ish goal for the number I want to launch this year, but to start, I’ve got six on deck: two winged creatures, two land creatures, and two marine creatures. I'm planning for the initial launch this spring.
I'm really excited about the sea otter design!
Creating a kit is fun, but it’s also challenging. When I’m working on a custom embroidered piece, I’m the only one who has to create it. Once. (Maybe three times.) But a kit is a different story. Other people need to be able to understand it. It needs to have some sort of logic, like a cooking recipe.
This goes against my normal way of working. Left up to my own devices, I'm big on vibes and whims. I bounce around an embroidery, maybe not finishing an area before it’s complete... but just because I got bored. It’s a little like eating dessert before the main course at dinner.
Designing, documenting, and writing takes a certain amount of discipline. Discipline is not my word of the year, but it is pretty close. I mentioned before about constraints on my time, which is essentially having the discipline to do something—even when it's hard or uncomfortable.
🪡 Take a workshop with me!
I've got several workshops as we enter proper spring—not the fake thing going on right now. Join me!
